Mingyuewan Ancient Village is located at the southern tip of Xishan Island in Taihu Lake. Bordering the lake to the south and nestled against green mountains, its landscape resembles a crescent moon. Legend has it that Mingyuewan was established as a village as early as the Spring and Autumn Period. It was named Mingyuewan after King Fuchai of Wu and the beautiful Xi Shi admired the bright moon there. The remains of the Eyebrow Spring, where Xi Shi washed her makeup, still remain on Shipai Mountain behind the village.
As the population grew, the village expanded accordingly. By the Tang and Song dynasties, Mingyuewan had essentially formed a chessboard-like mountain village pattern. Mingyuewan Ancient Village is a picturesque village, hidden deep in the mountains and lakes, an ancient village in the Jiangnan water town.
You can also experience farm fun here, which has now become another scenic spot in Mingyue Bay.
