What to eat in Nara? For dinner, I had shabu shabu, another small place hidden away in the alleyway near Kintetsu Nara Station. This little hot pot restaurant has a unique way of eating: you simmer the meat and vegetables, but you don't drink the broth. You don't even get a bowl!

After you finish eating, the waiter pours the remaining broth into a bowl and cooks udon noodles. I took a sip and immediately realized that the broth that had just been used to simmer the meat was actually the udon broth. No wonder they only gave you sesame paste for dipping. It was delicious! It was my first time having shabu shabu like this.
