If you enjoy exploring old houses and gardens, this destination is perfect for you. On my second stop in Nara, I visited the Takahata Villa District, home to the former residence of Shiga Naoya, often hailed as Japan's 'God of Novels.'

The house is based on traditional Japanese machiya architecture but incorporates Western-style elements in its layout and decor. The elegant wooden dining table and large windows exude a European palace-like charm. Gazing out at the beautiful garden, one can't help but think—studying in such an environment would make going abroad for education a breeze!
