[JL] Narita → San Francisco Economy Class ✈️

First flight on a JAL North American route 🎖️

Month of boarding: December 2023
Airline: Japan Airlines
Flight/route: JL58 NRT→SFO
Aircraft: B787-8 / JA836J
Seat: Economy class

JAL's San Francisco route operates from Narita and Haneda,
and while the Haneda flight uses a B77W, the Narita flight uses a B787-8.

Narita departs from gate 67A.
This is the gate where domestic flights such as Nagoya and Itami flights are parked
so it's located at the very edge and quite far away 💦

The standard seats on the B787-8 are arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration,
and I chose 26A, the last row in the forward economy compartment.
The seats are fully reclined, so it's comfortable✨
There were far more foreign passengers than Japanese,
and according to the announcement, there were 10 flight attendants, 158 passengers,
and 5 infants (total of 186 seats).

The flight to San Francisco took about 8 hours and 20 minutes.
After the seatbelt signs were turned off, we were given rice crackers, drinks, and postcard-sized
menus, followed by meal time.
This time, I chose the Japanese dish "Pork Belly Yakitori Bowl with Tsukune and Green Peppers,"
and it was delicious, including the side dishes of squid and mentaiko and lotus root buns😋
The Haagen-Dazs after meal is also a JAL exclusive,
and it feels premium, which is nice🍨

Meal time ends → Lights off → Lights on about 3 hours before arrival

The second meal service starts around 7:30 local time.
It was midnight in Japan🥱
The menu was a collaboration with MUJI, and consisted of a Chinese-style bowl of 8 treasures, vermicelli salad, and almond tofu👍
The taste was so-so, but I appreciated the initiative◎
The southerly wind was strong above San Francisco, and there was also congestion during takeoff and landing, so we waited our turn while circling at an altitude of 3,000m.
Then, we were able to see the Golden Gate Bridge from inside the plane as the route changed to a final approach through the city center🙏🌉
The plane was parked at SFO Gate A12 about 30 minutes later than scheduled.
It's more reassuring to be on a Japanese airline, and the longer the flight, the more you feel the benefits. I'm grateful for the comfortable time😊

Can you tell from the photo of the entire cabin that there are seats with green stickers on them? This is a sign indicating the seat where a "special in-flight meal" has been ordered☝️

Few Japanese people order special meals, but it is a common sight to see many people requesting special meals on international routes to the US and India👀
