Nasu Highlands is home to numerous amazing tourist attractions.
The Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge is located on the way to the Nasu Ropeway. Parking is free, and after a five-minute walk from the parking lot, you'll reach the suspension bridge. The bridge spans 130 meters in length and stands 38 meters high. Crossing the bridge is thrilling, but the breathtaking view of the towering mountains is truly spectacular.
The Sessho-seki, or "Killing Stone," is said to be the transformed form of the nine-tailed fox. You can learn about its legend from the information boards on-site. The area is enveloped in the mystical scent of sulfur, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Nearby, there is the Onsen Shrine, which is worth visiting for a prayer. In front of the shrine, you'll find a footbath to relax in.
Nasu is also known for its hot springs. Close to the Onsen Shrine is Shika-no-Yu, a traditional hot spring. The baths are divided by temperature, so if you’re not comfortable with hot water, you can choose the lowest temperature bath. Note that the washing area does not allow the use of shampoo or soap, so you’ll only be soaking in the baths.
While these attractions are relatively close to each other, getting around without a car can be inconvenient. Renting a car is highly recommended when visiting Nasu Highlands.
