Jiufen's Famous Taro Balls
If you're walking around Jiufen Old Street and don't stop by Grandma Lai's Sweet Taro Ball, it's like you haven't been there. This legendary taro ball shop attracts long lines almost all day long.
Their signature dish is the Taro Balls. Made from real taro, the dough is chewy and soft, with a subtle taro aroma. They're incredibly satisfying to chew. They also offer sweet potato and purple potato flavors, alternating between them, adding both flavor and color to the dish.
The soup comes in both hot and cold versions—the hot version is sweet and mellow, a comfort food that warms the heart. The cold version comes served as shaved ice with a drizzle of icy syrup, incredibly refreshing, especially on a hot day.
The atmosphere: While there are no mountain or sea views, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, combining a blend of traditional and modern elements with warm lighting and wooden tables and chairs, perfect for taking photos as souvenirs. The shop is clean and well-organized. This makes it easy to sit and eat comfortably without feeling cramped.
