🏛️ The Former Tamsui Customs Officer's Residence, also known as the "Little White House," is located at No. 15, Zhenli Street, Tamsui District, New Taipei City. Built during the late Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1870), it served as the residence for the customs officer of the Tamsui Customs Office. Due to its white colonial-style architecture, locals affectionately call it the "Little White House." It is now a designated historic site in New Taipei City.
This building features British colonial-style design, characterized by its elevated foundation, semi-circular arch corridors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and white exterior walls. These elements provide excellent lighting, ventilation, and moisture resistance. The surrounding grounds offer views of the Tamsui River and Guanyin Mountain, and the interior often hosts exhibitions on Tamsui's history and architectural features.
The residence bears witness to Tamsui's trade history following the opening of its port and was damaged during the Sino-French War. Thanks to a "Save the Little White House" campaign initiated by the public in 1996, it was preserved and restored, reopening for visitors in 2004.
