My recent trip to New York proved that Central Park is more than just a park - it's undeniable beauty and extensive range proves that it's a charming core of the 'Big Apple' that is New York.
Think 2.5 miles of untouched beauty and peace in a city that is filled with skyscrapers, hustle and bustle.
🧭 Starting at the park's north-western edge at Cathedral Parkway station, I headed east towards Harlem Meer where I was bypassed by several runners taking in the summer air.
⛲ After traversing the meadows I soon reached Jacqueline Kennedy Onaissis River which offers a glimpse of the tall buildings in the Upper West Side district.
🏰 The pièce-de-résistance in my opinion: Belvedere Castle. I had no idea this was here until I saw it - it's a beautiful tiny castle which is free of charge to enter and lets you take a glimpse of every corner of the park.
🦆 I then reached Bow Bridge, you'll know when you've reached it with it's decorative bannisters and truly romantic feel. Think Film & TV galore!
⛩️ At Bethesda Terrace you'll almost feel like you're in the far east - with it's fountains, fantastic brickwork and arches.
🚣♂️🏙️ The backdrop of New York skyscrapers will come to light once you reach Gapstow bridge and it's so olde-worlde it almost feels out of place in comparison!
Useful tips:
🕐 The whole journey from start to finish took me around 2hrs, you must dedicate enough time to see this whole masterpiece - don't rush it!
🥾 Bring good walking boots so you can not only stick to the rough paths but go off the beaten track when you need to.
☀️ Bring sun cream if you catch the sun easily like me! There are a lot of areas where you're exposed.
