Step into a world of hands-on wonder at the Niigata Science Museum, located at 1-1-3 Meike Minami, Chūō-ku, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. Built around the mission of merging learning with play, this museum invites visitors of all ages to touch, explore and be amazed by science in action.
Inside the museum you’ll find four main exhibition zones: Science of Nature, Science in Our Lives, Mysterious Plaza and History of Change in Niigata. You can stand beneath moving dinosaur dioramas, test torque and gravity in interactive exhibits, touch a real meteorite and ride a magnetic-levitation “floating cart”. The planetarium—a highlight—is one of the largest on Japan’s Sea-of-Japan coast and brings the night sky alive in immersive full-dome shows.
Planning your visit is easy:
• Hours & Admission: Typically open from about 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (check for updates). Tickets are modestly priced, with adults and children welcome, and special charges apply for the planetarium. Niigata Station take bus routes S51, S52, W73 or S50 to the “Yakujō Kagaku-kan Mae” stop (about 20 minutes). Free parking is available by car.
