Tanpu Gorge, also known as Xiaozhaigou, is located within the Yuntaishan Scenic Area and is a prime example of the mountain's exquisite canyons. Its breathtaking scenery is reminiscent of the Jiangnan region. The saying " a spring every three steps, a waterfall every five steps, and a pool every ten steps " truly captures the beauty of Tanpu Gorge.
Here you can enjoy the Lovers' Waterfall where people whisper to each other; the Water Curtain Cave where water flows all year round and pearl curtains hang high; the Harvest Picture where crops are plentiful and livestock are thriving; the Dragon and Phoenix Wall where dragons and phoenixes represent good fortune; the Butterfly Stone that looks like a fairy; and the Inkstone Washing Pool where stone inkstones are worn through.
Experts have verified that the Bu Lao Spring within Tanpu Gorge, a source of high-quality mineral water, collects the summer rain and winter snow of the Taihang Mountains, seeping and flowing for over 50 kilometers. The Xiuwu County Chronicles records that Wang Lie, a hermit during the Wei and Jin dynasties, drank from this spring when thirsty and ate Polygonatum sibiricum when hungry, living to the age of 338 and still walking briskly.
The weather is suitable for all seasons, with waterfalls and springs in summer. There is a Yuntaishan waterfall viewing event in August and September every year.
The total length is 2000 meters and it takes about an hour and a half.
