It takes about 2 hours from Shinjuku, Tokyo to Kinugawa Onsen. Easy access from the city center is also attractive.
The hot spring town on either side of the Kinugawa valley is lined with hot spring inns with rooms overlooking the spectacular view and abundant hot spring water.
The Kinugawa river boat ride is faster than you'd think and is very fun. You can enjoy it even more with a boatman as your guide.

The hot springs, the river boat ride, and the spectacular view from the bridge are all wonderful.
We recommend staying at a Kinugawa Onsen inn, enjoying the spectacular view, and then taking the SL Daiki to Nikko Toshogu Shrine the next day!
