The Ningbo Prefecture City God Temple, also known as the County Temple, is commonly known as the Old City God Temple. It carries the historical memory of Ningbo for thousands of years and is an important cultural landmark of the city.
Every city's City God Temple has a unique historical origin, and Ningbo is no exception. Its history can be traced back to the Later Liang period of the Five Dynasties. Before the city was established at the mouth of the three rivers in Ningbo, the ancient cities of "Yin, Mao, and Juzhang" in the Ningbo area already had City God Temples. Over time, although some ancient temples have disappeared, or have been relocated and rebuilt, or only have broken walls and ruins left, there are still many City God Temple buildings in Ningbo, among which the Ningbo Prefecture City God Temple is the most grand and characteristic.
The stage in the City God Temple was also a lively place, where various operas such as Peking Opera, Shao Opera, Yue Opera, and Yong Opera have been performed. It is an open-air theater🎭
