The Eastern "Daughter Kingdom" Mosuo Secret Realm - Lugu Lake

“South of the colorful clouds, the direction of my heart,
South of the colorful clouds, the place to return to,
By Butterfly Spring, the songs flow,
By Lugu Lake, my heart still ripples”
---- Song: South of the Colorful Clouds
Yunnan Province
China has many provinces, all named after the mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas on the land. Only Yunnan’s clouds ☁️ come from the sky.
People use "South of the Colorful Clouds" to describe this land, where the complex monsoon alternations bring the clouds wandering on the plateau the most colorful changes.
Yunnan Province, abbreviated as "Yun" or "Dian," is located on China’s southwestern border. Before the Qin Dynasty, the ancient Dian Kingdom appeared here. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, local regimes such as the Nanzhao Kingdom and the Dali Kingdom were established.

Lugu Lake
Yunnan’s clouds not only float in the sky but also drift on the water. If you like tranquility, come to Lugu Lake. Watch the white clouds pass by. Watch time flow.
Lugu Lake is the mother lake of the matriarchal Mosuo people and is known as the Daughter Kingdom of the East. Legend has it that it is the last tear dropped by lovers.

✅ Must Experience:
Be sure to personally ride the local Mosuo people's pig trough boat and get close to the white flowers on the water surface, scientifically called Potamogeton pectinatus. People jokingly call it "water willow flower." Actually, it does not drift with the waves; its roots firmly grasp the lake bottom. Among Yunnan’s nine major plateau lakes, only in Lugu Lake can you most often find it because only the clearest lake water can keep it.
