On the second day of the Eight-Day Kansai Region Tour, I set foot in Japan's Chugoku region for the first time.
Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden are must-visit attractions. You can take a bus or tram from Okayama Station to get there.
Take a bus heading towards Higashiyama and get off at "Kencho-mae" (Prefectural Office Front) stop. The fare is 120 yen (approximately HKD 6).
After alighting, it's about a 5-minute walk to Okayama Castle.
The stone walls at the entrance of the main keep (Honmaru) are built with massive stones, symbolizing the authority and power of the castle lord.
In the past, attendants accompanying samurai to Okayama Castle would wait at the "Kokyokake" area until their masters finished their business.
Even in seasons without flowers, you can admire the small red berries.
Due to its black exterior walls, Okayama Castle is also known as "Crow Castle."
Admission to Okayama Castle is 400 yen (approximately HKD 20) for adults. If you plan to visit Korakuen Garden on the same day, you can purchase a combined ticket for 720 yen (approximately HKD 36), saving 180 yen (approximately HKD 9). However, since Korakuen Garden offers a senior ticket for 200 yen (approximately HKD 10) for those aged 65 and above, seniors should avoid buying the combined ticket.
After a year and a half of the "Reiwa Grand Renovation," Okayama Castle reopened in November 2022. Visitors can now take their time exploring and learning about the history and unique features of the castle.
The lockers are designed with Okayama Castle's distinctive style.
Even the vending machines reflect the castle's unique characteristics.
