Whenever you visit Osaka, you must have a meal at Shake Shack. Besides the savory and flavorful burger patties, the fries drenched in cheese that are calorie bombs yet irresistibly delicious, the most important thing is the milkshakes that have long disappeared in Taiwan, paired perfectly with the refreshing lemonade.
This brand isn’t very old but is very American, seizing the opportunity in the capital market for a major turnaround in 2020. It started in 2001, selling hot dogs only at Madison Square Park, evolving from a small stand and food truck, expanding its menu from hot dogs to burgers to milkshakes. It went public in 2014, kicking off its expansion.
Today, there are over 400 stores worldwide, but 30% of the stores in the U.S. are in New York. Because of slightly higher pricing, the seven most profitable stores are all in Manhattan. Now jokingly called one of New York’s three treasures, along with the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, Shake Shack’s status in the hearts of New Yorkers is clear.
According to a book by Shake Shack executives revealing its secrets to success, the golden ratio of milkshakes and burger sauce, combined with extremely strict quality control, is key. If interested, you can check out this book.
