Sumibi-yakitori Kitcho Dotombori, Osaka Dotonbori Charcoal Grill Izakaya

#GreatPlacesToGoApril2025
Address: 2F Maison de Dotonbori, 2-4-11 Dotonbori, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture 542-0071
Atmosphere/Facilities: Very small seating, restroom, smoking allowed, handwritten menu (Chinese), cash only
Features: Skewers, side dishes, draft beer
Average Price: 3,000 JPY
Rating: A local old shop accidentally discovered while wandering around Dotonbori, later found out to be a 28-year-old chain. Many Chinese tourists stop by to take photos at the entrance.
Inside seating is very limited; a four-person table can only fit about two people. Since five Japanese customers occupied two six-person tables, only the counter and a very small four-person table were left. I personally recommend focusing on the counter seating for this type of izakaya unless the tables are very large.
There is Chinese next to the handwritten menu for reference. For side dishes, the cucumber with miso natto dip is refreshing and tasty. The restaurant provides a small dish of fried rice noodles. Each order consists of three skewers, with prices slightly higher at about 300-500 JPY per skewer.
Recommended dishes: Grilled chicken wings, very crispy texture. Chicken tail, carefully trimmed to remove any off-flavors. Grilled chicken hearts are juicy with no gamey taste. Grilled vegetables like eggplant and shiitake mushrooms are also good.
Not recommended: Grilled beef belly slices, the meat is tough and hard to chew. Although the grated radish sauce is delicious, it instantly cools down the freshly grilled beef belly, making it cold.
Total spending was nearly 14,000 JPY! Prices are mid to high range, and the quality of the dishes is somewhat inconsistent.
