Guide
Embark on a scent-filled adventure in Kyoto and Osaka! This time, we take you into hidden fragrance havens tucked away in alleys and trendy neighborhoods, where every breath is full of ritual~
First, Kyoto’s APFR is truly low-key! Hidden in an inconspicuous alley, it’s easy to miss its understated storefront. Push open the door, and the space design and background music blend perfectly, creating a quiet and serene atmosphere—perfect for slowly savoring each fragrance.
In Osaka, APFR on Orange Street is a concept store with richer, more intense scents, ideal for heading straight to your favorite products. Besides APFR, the store features many other intriguing fragrance brands. Among them, the oudwood incense sticks are popular, with a calm and steady aroma; I chose the brighter-smelling Reakwood. Although APFR’s incense didn’t make me “fall in love at first sniff,” the unique olfactory experience is still worth savoring.
Orange Street truly is a paradise for fragrance lovers! Not only is there APFR, but the famous Le Labo is also nearby! I tried the newly launched EUCALYPTUS 33, whose fresh notes are perfect for this season; VETIVER 46’s top notes carry peppery spice and a faint smoky feel, which is very interesting, though the base notes are a bit dull. The staff were super thoughtful, carefully labeling each scent strip with no sales pressure at all~
Even more exciting, next to Le Labo is a perfume blending room! You can freely choose three fragrance bases and create your own exclusive perfume by hand—whether for personal use or as a souvenir, it’s incredibly meaningful! While Le Labo is slightly more professional in blending, the DIY fun is truly unique~
Next time you visit Kyoto or Osaka, don’t forget to follow this guide and start your own fragrance shopping journey!
