Located in Nakanoshima, Osaka, Japan, the National Museum of Art was designed by architectural master Cesar Pelli, inspired by the "vitality of bamboo," creating a unique three-level underground building. Steel arches rise like reeds above ground, combined with a sunken plaza that utilizes natural light, forming a stunning landscape where technology and art coexist. The collection includes over 8,000 contemporary artworks created after 1945, covering Japanese art movements such as Gutai and Mono-ha, and regularly hosts international special exhibitions like "Picasso and Japan."
Open weekdays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (extended to 7:00 PM on Fridays), closed on Mondays and during the New Year. Multilingual guides are available, and it is conveniently accessible via the Yotsubashi subway line to Higobashi Station. This "underground art sanctuary" is not only one of Japan’s four major national art museums but also a cultural landmark of Osaka with its innovative architecture and rich collection!
