Shinsekai District

"This Osaka trip must stop by Shinsekai, the oldest neon-lit district!"

Walking in feels retro, like stepping back to the Showa era. Neon signs, vibrant colors, rows of restaurants, especially the signature dish of the area, Kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers). Eating it with beer is the best. The main landmark is Tsutenkaku Tower, beautifully lit at night—perfect for photos. At the top, there’s a 360° observation deck with a clear view of Osaka. Around it, there are game arcades and small bars.

Recommended restaurants in Shinsekai:

1. Daruma – The legendary Kushikatsu you must try
2. Kushikatsu Jan Jan – Fried skewers with great variety, affordable prices
3. Yaekatsu – An old shop with authentic local flavors
4. Ganso Kushikatsu – Traditional atmosphere
5. Tsutenkaku Kushi no Bo – Enjoy Kushikatsu with a tower view
6. Spa World – Large onsen just a few minutes’ walk away
7. Jan-Jan Yokocho Alley – Alley of eateries and bars with a homey vibe

Tips:

Come in the evening until night when all the lights are on for the best atmosphere.
Kushikatsu rule: Do not double-dip your skewer in the sauce.
Get off at Dobutsuen-mae Station and walk about 5 minutes to reach.

Summary: Shinsekai is a classic Osaka spot full of food and a cozy, colorful atmosphere. If you love street food, you have to come!
