The Osaka History Museum is located near the grounds of Osaka Castle. It’s a grand style building that also houses a TV production studio.
The tour is self guided and you can rent an audio guide at the ticket kiosk of just JPY600. Take the elevator up to the 10th floor to start.
It begins with a video that shows life in the Kansai region over 1000 years ago when Japan was ruled by the feudal class system.
You can wander through the exhibits that show the architecture, planning and layout of Osaka when the Shogunate ruled. There is a map that shows the location of the original palace which can be seen from the window with views across to Osaka Castle. The museum provides great panoramic shots of the city.
There are interactive exhibits and incredibly detailed dioramas and models to check out.
Watching how the city grew and expanded rapidly during the late 1800s to early 20th century is fascinating.
This is definitely an interesting place to see if you want to do something indoors because weather made visiting Osaka Castle park unviable. ##osakahistory
