The tenshu (the tallest tower) served symbolic and lookout purposes
🏯 Osaka Castle
Built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, symbolizing the unification of Japan
1614-15 Osaka Campaign: After Hideyoshi’s son, Hideyori, surrendered in battle against Tokugawa, the castle was destroyed → later rebuilt
The current tenshu was restored in 1931, with the interior housing a history museum
🏯 Himeji Castle (accessible from Osaka using the Kansai Wide Pass)
Originally built in the early 14th century, completed in its current form in the early 17th century
Known as the "White Heron Castle," it is considered the most beautiful castle in Japan
It was actually prettier than Osaka Castle😍
It has preserved its original form by avoiding war, earthquakes, and fires
It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993!!
