Oshino Hakkai has extremely clear water

Oshino Hakkai is a small village with 8 ponds. The pond was formed by volcanic eruptions and intensive volcanic activity. The water comes from underground springs and is rich in minerals. The water in Yongchi is extremely clear and clean, and was listed as one of the best springs in the country in 1985.

There are shops in the village selling snacks and souvenirs. Many souvenirs are printed with Mount Fuji images. For snacks, you can try the grass cake with mugwort. Mugwort is a herb native to the growing area around Oshino Hakkai. The Kusamochi is stuffed with red bean paste, and the overall texture is similar to red bean mochi.
