While sightseeing in Hokkaido, I visited the "Old Japanese National Railways Temiya Line" in Otaru. The "Old Japanese National Railways Temiya Line" was a 2.8km line that once connected Minami-Otaru Station and Temiya Station (near the Temiyaguchi turntable of the Otaru City Museum). It was abolished in 1985. It also operated passenger services until 1962. This was the era of steam locomotives. A video from that time shows the majestic figure of a D51 + passenger car train running through the middle of a residential area.
Currently, part of the Temiya Line remains, between the southern starting point of Sushiya-dori and the northern starting point near the Temiyaguchi turntable of the Otaru City Museum, about 1.6km in length, is used as a promenade.
The Temiya Line, surrounded by residential areas, has many railroad crossings. The remains, monuments, and memorials that remain here and there are also one of the attractions. It is a wonderful tourist spot that is well-maintained as a promenade.
