Otaru in Hokkaido is a beautiful port town that cannot be missed, famous for its Otaru Canal and historical warehouse buildings. There are not only rich historical attractions here, but also many delicacies and specialties, among which glass products are particularly famous.

Among the many glass product manufacturers, Kitaichi Glass is the most representative. Kitaichi Glass, founded in 1901 as a manufacturer of oil lamps, has now become a part of Otaru culture. Kitaichi Glass has 18 stores in Otaru, among which the third store is the most popular. This historic stone warehouse is full of retro style and displays a variety of glass artworks, including oil lamps, wind chimes, glass cups, etc. Each piece shows the exquisite craftsmanship of the craftsmen.

Visitors can also watch craftsmen making glass on site, and have enthusiastic store staff explain the stories behind the works. I chose a blue glass pendant, which was impressive for its transparency and design.
