The Taisho Glass Museum was built in 1906 and is one of the historical buildings that was transformed from a stone warehouse. It combines the style of the Taisho period with the modern literary atmosphere. The museum displays and sells colored glassware, blown glass ornaments, wind chimes, lamps, etc. made by local craftsmen, which combine Japanese traditions with Western Art Nouveau styles, and are dazzling.
In addition to viewing, Taisho Glass Museum also provides parent-child and traveler-friendly hand-made experiences: you can make reservations for courses such as glass blowing, glass bead making, mirror/photo frame decoration, etc. Beginners can also participate with peace of mind, and you can take your own works back as souvenirs at the end.
No tickets are required in the museum, and you can enter and purchase goods freely, which is especially popular among tourists and collectors. It is recommended to arrange a visit in the morning to avoid the crowds, leisurely appreciate the goods and hand-made processes, and roam along Sakaimachi Street to experience the romantic atmosphere of Otaru.
