Otaru is a charming city just 40 minutes away from Sapporo by JR train, making it an ideal destination for a one-day trip.
📍 Start your morning with a stroll along the Otaru Canal! The picturesque scenery of stone warehouses and gas lamps is perfect for capturing stunning photos. Then, take a walk down Sakaimachi Street to explore the music box museum, glass craft shops, and quaint cafes.
🍣 For lunch, head to the **Sankaku Market (三角市場)** next to the JR station and enjoy a hearty kaisendon (seafood rice bowl). Packed with fresh salmon roe, sea urchin, and tuna, this delicacy is a must-try exclusive to Otaru.
🗻 In the afternoon, take a trip up to the Tenguyama Observatory for a panoramic view of the city and the sea. Don’t forget dessert! Indulge in a sweet break at LeTAO’s main store, famous for its cheesecake.
🌙 End your day with an evening stroll along the canal. The romantic nighttime atmosphere is completely different from the daytime.
✨ If you’re visiting Sapporo, dedicate a day to Otaru. It’s a short but fulfilling trip that captures the essence of Hokkaido.
