[Hokkaido/Otaru🇯🇵] Experience stained glass and masterpieces from Japan and abroad in a historic building✨️ Otaru Art Village

Otaru Art Base is a group of art museums established by Akio Nitori, founder of furniture and interior design company Nitori, located in a historic neighborhood near the Otaru Canal. The greatest attraction of this art base is its unique art space, where quaint buildings that tell the story of Otaru's history are combined with domestic and international artworks created in the same era as the buildings.

Otaru Art Base is primarily comprised of four facilities: the Stained Glass Museum, the Former Mitsui Bank Otaru Branch, and the Nitori Museum of Western Art. The Stained Glass Museum is particularly popular, offering up-close views of precious stained glass produced in England from the late 19th to early 20th centuries in a space that recreates the atmosphere of a church. The space, bathed in vibrant light, captivates visitors.

The Former Mitsui Bank Otaru Branch, a stately building itself, is a work of art, and visitors can enjoy the building's history through exhibits such as the bank's vault and projection mapping on the ceiling. The Nitori Museum of Art features a wide variety of exhibits, including modern Japanese paintings and sculptures, and the Western Art Museum features Art Nouveau glasswork and furniture. The greatest joy of Otaru Art Base is being able to deeply experience both historic architecture and the pinnacle of art in one area.
