Historical background
Wushi Village was built during the reign of Emperor Wuzong of the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,200 years ago. It is one of the best-preserved ancient villages in China. The village is built with black basalt formed by volcanic eruptions 200 million years ago. It is simple and elegant, and is one of the best-preserved ancient building complexes in Zhejiang Province.
