On the banks of the Jialing River lies Zhouzi Ancient Town, a town that has been tempered by thousands of years of history. It shines like a brilliant pearl, exuding a simple yet enchanting glow.
Stepping into Zhouzi Ancient Town is like entering an ancient painting. The century-old street stretches for a thousand meters, paved with bluestone slabs that have been polished smooth and textured by the passage of time, each carrying the memory of history. On both sides of the street are well-preserved ancient residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties, over 3,000 connected rooms arranged in an orderly yet staggered manner. The white walls and black tiles, bathed in sunlight, appear especially peaceful and serene.
The architectural style of the ancient town is unique, blending the characteristics of northeastern Sichuan dwellings. The flying eaves and upturned corners of the pavilions, the carved beams and painted rafters of the doors and windows, all showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient artisans. Among them, the Zhouzi Ancestral Hall and Zhouzi Academy are iconic buildings of the town, witnessing its historical changes and cultural heritage, allowing visitors to feel a strong cultural atmosphere.
In addition to the ancient buildings, the folk customs of Zhouzi Ancient Town are also rich and colorful. Here, you can watch traditional handicrafts being made, such as paper-cutting and embroidery, and appreciate the skillful hands of folk artists. You can also taste authentic farmhouse cuisine: Peng'an tofu is tender and smooth, farmhouse stir-fry is fragrant, and specialty snacks like sugar-coated fried dough balls and mahua (twisted fried dough) leave a lasting impression.
