Dreaming of the ultimate Outback adventure? I recently took on the amazing geological feature that is Uluru (otherwise known as Ayers Rock). Completely unlike anything I have ever seen before and an absolute must on your Australian Itinerary!
Here’s a 4-day itinerary that covers Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon – with sunrise hikes, cultural insights, and nights under a sky full of stars.
🏜️ Day 1 – Arrival & Kata Tjuta
Morning
• Arrive in Yulara, relax, and stock up on snacks in the town centre.
Afternoon
• Head to Kata Tjuta (Valley of the Winds) for a short but stunning walk among the towering red domes.
Evening
• Drive to Uluru for your first sunset view – the rock glows a fiery red as the sun drops.
• Enjoy dips and snacks as you watch and BBQ dinner around the campfire 🍖
🌅 Day 2 – Uluru Sunrise & Culture
Early Morning
• Wake at 5am for sunrise at Uluru.
• Walk the 10 km Base Track – spot ancient rock art, caves, watering holes, and learn the Anangu stories along the way.
Late Morning
• Visit the Cultural Centre for art, history, and language talks. ☕
Afternoon
• Drive towards Kings Canyon with scenic stops at “Fool-uru” and a vast salt lake.
Evening
• Watch the sunset at Kings Canyon lookout with a glowing moon 🌕
⛰️ Day 3 – Kings Canyon & Return to Yulara
Morning
• Start the Kings Canyon Rim Walk at sunrise 🌅 (6 km / 3 hrs).
• Explore breathtaking cliffs, stunning panoramic views, and The Garden of Eden waterhole 💧
Afternoon
• Grab some lunch, then a long drive back to Yulara.
Catch the sunset with views of both Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa.
🌞 Day 4 – Farewell Sunrise & Departure
Morning
• Final sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
Midday
• Free time: browse souvenir shops, art galleries, and grab a coffee ☕.
Afternoon
Airport transfer and onward travels ✈️
