🏘Wat Nang Phaya is believed to have been built during the Sukhothai period and renovated by Phra Wisutthikasatri, the consort of King Maha Thammarachathirat, between 2095 and 2100 CE.
🛕Wat Nang Phaya is famous for the discovery of Phra Nang Phaya, one of the Benjaphakee amulets. The first discovery occurred when the temple's pagoda collapsed, leading to the discovery of the amulet crypt in 2444 CE.
🙏🏽It is assumed that Phra Nang Phaya was created by Phra Wisutthikasatri, the mother of King Naresuan the Great, during the renovation of Wat Ratchaburana, around 2090–2100 CE.
Important and interesting features within Chan Palace include:
🏠The Ubosot (ordination hall) was built in 2521 CE to replace the original viharn. Inside, it houses the principal Buddha image, Somdet Nang Phaya Ruean Kaew.
🙏🏽A large replica of Phra Nang Phaya is available for worshippers to pay their respects to. and has become the temple's signature feature.
🙏🏽 Statue of the Great Monk (Somdej Phra Phannarat of Wat Pa Kaew), the teacher of King Naresuan the Great.
🏚 Phlap Phla Hathai Naresuan 5 enshrines statues of King Maha Thammaracha, King Wisutthikasat, King Naresuan the Great, King Ekathotsarot, and Queen Suphankanlaya.
📚 Wat Nang Phaya was registered as an ancient monument in 1936, specifically the viharn (currently the ordination hall) and two twelve-sided chedis.
