🏘 Wat Ratchaburana, a third-class royal temple. There is no evidence of its construction date, but it dates back over 1,000 years. Later, King Lithai renovated the temple, thus earning it the name Wat Ratchaburana.
🧱 In 2006, King Borommatrailokanat moved the capital of his kingdom to Phitsanulok and restored many old temples, including Wat Ratchaburana.
🙏🏽 Later, King Rama IV restored the temple.
Highlights of the temple include:
🏠 The ordination hall (ordination hall) is unique, with its graceful three-headed naga adorned with eaves. Inside, the principal Buddha image, Luang Pho Thong Suk, in the Mara-Vijaya posture, is enshrined in Sukhothai-style lacquer and gilded lacquer. There are also murals painted during the reign of King Rama IV.
🏚 The royal viharn (wihan) is a hall-style architecture in the Sukhothai period. The pillars in the viharn are laterite and round brick and mortar. Inside, the principal Buddha image, Luang Pho Thong Dam, is a gilded, lacquered stucco statue depicting the subduing Mara posture, a Sukhothai-style art form.
🛕 The nearly 600-year-old chedi, built during the reign of King Borommatrailokkanat, houses the relics of the Lord Buddha. Currently, most of the chedis were built during his reign.
🛖 The museum houses Sukhothai-style Buddha images, displaying ancient coins, banknotes, musical instruments, and glass objects.
