Wat Phutthaisawan, the royal temple of Ayutthaya, is incredibly beautiful.

When it comes to visiting Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, many people immediately think of ancient temples steeped in history. One must-see is Wat Phutthaisawan, a secondary royal temple on the Chao Phraya River, which has retained its grandeur and beauty since the early Ayutthaya period.

Wat Phutthaisawan was built in 1351 by King Ramathibodi I (King Uthong), the first king of Ayutthaya, as a memorial to the place where he resided before his ascension to the throne. This makes the temple particularly significant in terms of its historical significance.

The temple's most striking feature is the large main prang, which stands majestically in the center of the temple. Its architectural style incorporates Khmer influences and Ayutthayan elements, creating a majestic and powerful presence. Surrounding the prang are numerous chedis and other ancient architectural masterpieces.

Another highlight is the Wihan Phra Phuttha Saiyas, which houses a large reclining Buddha with a calm, serene face, revered by both locals and tourists. The Ubosot (ordination hall) is also still used for Buddhist ceremonies today.

Strolling around the temple grounds offers a peaceful, shady, and beautiful atmosphere, especially in the early morning or late afternoon. The sunlight reflecting on the prang creates particularly beautiful images, making it a favorite among both amateur and professional photographers.
