Wat Boromphuttharam, often called “Wat Krabueang Khlueap” — meaning The Glazed-Tile Temple — is a remarkable yet often-overlooked remnant of Ayutthaya’s royal past. Located within the grounds of Rajabhat University on Si Sanphet Road, this temple once stood proudly in the hometown of King Phetracha, the founder of the Ban Phlu Luang Dynasty.
Constructed between 1688 and 1703 during King Phetracha’s reign, and later restored by King Boromakot, the temple showcases the refined architectural style of the late Ayutthaya period. Its Ubosot (ordination hall) sits on a base shaped like the hull of a Chinese junk — a distinctive feature of the era’s craftsmanship. The roofs, once covered with bright yellow glazed tiles, gave the temple its famous nickname.
