Wat Mahathat, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

Located near Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Mahathat was built during the reign of King Phra Ngua, King Borommarachathirat I, it is the royal temple and residence of the Supreme Patriarch of the Kammavasi sect. It is notable for its principal prang containing the relics of the Lord Buddha, and its Buddha head, encircled by Bodhi roots.

A distinctive feature of Wat Mahathat is its large viharn (ordination hall) at the front of the temple. The principal prang containing the relics of the Lord Buddha is in the center, and the ubosot (ordination hall) is located at the back.

For tourists interested in visiting, the temple is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
