Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town
👍In the past, people of various races settled down, worked as traders, and built shophouses with Sino-Portuguese architectural styles, which can be seen on both sides of the road since the reign of King Rama V when the tin mining business flourished.
⛪️Sino-Portuguese architecture is a perfect blend of Chinese elegance and European structures. The buildings are usually 2-3 storeys deep and long, with an arched front door, beautifully decorated with decorative patterns that combine the two cultures, including windows, doors, and gables.
🏚️If you notice the walkway with arched windows in front of every house, you will see that it is a footpath about 5 feet wide, continuously at a distance called 'Arcade' or in Hokkien, 'Ngo Kha Khi', a distinctive feature of Sino-Portuguese architecture that protects from the sun and rain, and allows people to walk along the entire length.
