Kathu Shrine, Phuket Province

Did you know that the origin of Phuket's famous Vegetarian Festival took place at this ancient shrine, which has been with Phuket for a long time. Phuket people like to call this shrine "Am Kathu" or "Chai Tung" ("Am" is a word that Phuket people use to refer to the shrine).

Am Kathu or Am Tu is located in Kathu District, Phuket Province. During the vegetarian festival, a Ko Teng pole with 9 lanterns is erected, which represents the length of this shrine.
