Pingtung Fangliao Blue Skin Imagery Museum is located in Fangliao Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan. It is a place for rest and cultural exhibition related to the Blue Skin Jieyou sightseeing train. The museum was originally an idle dormitory for employees of the Taiwan Railway Southbound Railway. In July 2022, Lion Travel spent about 21 million yuan and took 6 months to renovate and reconstruct it. It officially opened on July 19, 2022. The Blue Skin Imagery Museum aims to provide passengers on the Blue Skin Jieyou with a waiting space before boarding. It also serves as a tourist information service station, performance venue and souvenir shop, echoing the nostalgic theme of the Blue Skin Jieyou. The Blue-skinned Jieyou Express was originally a regular train on the South-Link Railway. It was discontinued due to electrification at the end of 2020. After renovation, Lion Travel resumed operation as a sightseeing train on October 23, 2021. It runs between Fangliao and Taitung, becoming a representative tourist route in Pingtung County. As of June 2022, it has attracted more than 33,000 passengers.
The Blue-skinned Imagery Museum is divided into three major areas: the "Present Area" has a check-in counter and a store selling Blue-skinned Jieyou peripheral products, providing cultural and creative products, souvenirs and local agricultural specialties; the "Past Area" simulates the seats and dining bar of the Blue-skinned carriage to show a retro atmosphere; the "Future Area" is an exhibition space that displays art works and travel information. The backyard has a Q-version Jieyou platform and hidden artworks by American landscape painter David Zinn, which are suitable for taking pictures. The weather is cool in winter, so it is recommended to wear a thin coat. There are rest areas and air conditioners in the museum, and beverage and light meal services are also provided. Some exhibitions may require reservations, so it is recommended to confirm in advance.
In terms of transportation, the Blue Image Museum can be reached by public transportation. The museum is located in the F3 Art and Culture Zone next to Fangliao Station, about a 1-minute walk from Fangliao Railway Station. From Pingtung City, you can take the Taiwan Railway shuttle bus to "Fangliao Station", which takes about 1 hour and costs about 50-70 yuan. The walking route is along Chuyun Road, with clear road signs and suitable for walking. If you depart from Kaohsiung, you can take the Taiwan Railway Puyuma or shuttle bus to "Fangliao Station", which takes about 1.5 hours and costs about 100-150 yuan, and then walk for about 1 minute. There is also a parking lot that provides free parking services, which must be reserved in advance with the museum. It is open all year round (except for specific maintenance or exhibition adjustment days), suitable for tourists planning to travel to Pingtung.
