This isn’t the United Kingdom. Nor is it Denmark or any of the other European countries where monarchies still exist. This is, in fact, Potsdam, on the outskirts of Berlin. The palaces and castles that you can find here are nothing short of phenomenal - and you must visit here whilst on a trip to Berlin!
The most famous of the palaces, Sanssouci palace, is striking with its layered gardens and bright yellow facade. In summer, the shrubbery and flowers in blooms only adds to another layer and element of beauty on show. It’s no wonder this is Germany’s largest world heritage site!
You can enter into many of these palaces for a fee, but even walking through the park, you can admire the palaces from the outside and see the differing styles of architecture and history on view. It’s a tranquil and peaceful setting, just a short train journey from the hustle and bustle of Berlin, making it a relaxing retreat from the metropolis.
