🐟 Qingdao Ruyu (炉鱼) Visit Review

Upon the 5th floor of Wanxiangcheng, the "Ruyu" sign is immediately noticeable. It's so popular that there's already a line forming around dinnertime. The interior is clean and modern, giving it the feel of a casual dining restaurant rather than a traditional Chinese restaurant.

The main dish, of course, was Kaoyu (steamed fish on an iron plate). Grilled fish is placed on a large iron plate, then stewed in a spicy broth with various vegetables, tofu, and seafood. The broth is quite rich and spicy. You can adjust the spiciness to your preference, and it's perfectly suited to Korean palates.

I ordered the spicy version with Cheongyang peppers. The broth had a subtle smoky flavor, while the fish was tender and cooked perfectly, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice. The accompanying potatoes, bean sprouts, and tofu were also soaked in the broth, adding a nice savory flavor.

Above all, the portions are generous for the price, making it a great place to share with a group. The three of us only ordered one fish and a few sides, but we were still very full.
