The Great Wall of China at Jiaoshan in Shanhaiguan, a striking sight, traces the ridge of a mountain at an elevation of approximately 519 meters.
Many people report that the relatively few tourists here allow them to fully appreciate the majestic Great Wall in a tranquil atmosphere.
However, some hikers point out that the slopes are steep and some sections have unstable footing, so caution is advised against physical exertion and the choice of footwear.
From the summit, a panoramic view of the mountains and sea unfolds, providing a sense of accomplishment that only those who have made the climb can experience.
🌄 Sights & Attractions
- From the main peak, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains and the Bohai Sea, and the scenery both inside and outside the Great Wall unfolds in a magnificent way.
- Located inside the Great Wall is the ancient Qixian Temple, a historic and charming spot.
・There are steep stone steps and vertical ladders (near the watchtower), so climbing requires physical strength and caution, but the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the top is said to be great.
🕒 Access/Travel Time
・Approximately a 10-minute taxi ride from the center of Shanhaiguan, or you can approach by bus or on foot.
・Some visitors estimate that the total climb and descent takes approximately 1.5 hours.
・Lift (ropeway) facilities are sometimes mentioned as an option, but they may not be operational at the time of your visit.
✅ Sightseeing Tips
・The mild weather in spring and autumn makes walking easy. Beware of heat in summer and slippery conditions in winter.
・Bring non-slip shoes, gloves, and plenty of water.
・If you have time, consider hiking the Great Wall further north and touring the surrounding attractions.
