If nature had a color palette, it would definitely be Western Australia!
Having visited WA six times, I've reached Lucky Bay in Esperance to the south, Exmouth to the north, and Kalgoorlie for gold panning inland. From coastline to golden outback, WA truly has it all.
Here are my favorite spots:
1️⃣ Rottnest Island: The quokkas are absolutely adorable
2️⃣ Exmouth: Ningaloo National Park – in my opinion, Australia's most beautiful coral reefs! Swim with whale sharks from April to October
3️⃣ Albany-Esperance: Two hidden gem towns in southern WA, cool in summer. From January to April, you can spot orcas in Bremer Bay. Lucky Bay is often called Australia's most beautiful beach, while I personally love Greens Pool near Denmark
4️⃣ Margaret River: A classic holiday region with not just coastlines but towering forests and caves. From Busselton's underwater observatory to the Valley of the Giants treetop walk – perfect for families
5️⃣ Geraldton area: A photographer's dream road trip route featuring The Pinnacles, Hutt Lagoon, and Kalbarri National Park – already a well-established scenic drive
Road trip routes:
1️⃣ Northern Route: 8-10 days
Perth → Lancelin → Jurien Bay → The Pinnacles → Hutt Lagoon → Kalbarri National Park → Geraldton → Shark Bay → Monkey Mia → Carnarvon → Exmouth
This journey showcases the Indian Ocean coastline – the most colorful stretch
2️⃣ Southern Route: 8-10 days
I actually prefer the Margaret River region and Esperance in summer – Lucky Bay is truly unbeatable
Perth → Busselton → Hamelin Bay → Leewin Lighthouse → Greens Pool → Albany → Esperance → Lucky Bay → Wave Rock → Perth
Western Australia is so vast that even after multiple visits I haven't seen it all. Next on my list is exploring the Broome area! Perth · Western Australia
