หน้าผาโทจินโบ (Tojinbo Cliffs)

This is another famous tourist attraction in Fukui Prefecture.

While this cliff was once known as a popular place for suicides in Japan, we recommend looking past the spooky and mysterious elements and enjoying the stunning sunset views, delicious food, and a charming cliffside cafe.

Tojinbo is a rocky cliff along the Sea of Japan formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. The rock formations here are spectacularly stacked, some as high as 20 meters! The azure blue sea and the gray cliffs look like a movie set. It's a perfect spot to watch the sunset in the evening.

Nearby, there are many cute restaurants and cafes, but they close quite early. By 5 PM, most of them were already closed, so plan your trip carefully.

🚆 Getting from Fukui Station to Tojinbo

The most convenient way is to drive yourself. You can adjust your travel plans to suit your preferences. But if you don't have a car, here's how to get there:

Start from Fukui Station (福井駅).

🚌 Option 1: Direct bus, most convenient!
• From Fukui Station, take the Keifuku Bus Tojinbo Line.
• Get off at the last stop, Tojinbo (東尋坊).
• Travel time: approximately 50 minutes, fare: approximately 800 yen.
🕒 Buses depart every hour on average — we recommend checking the schedule beforehand.

🚆 Option 2: Train + Bus
• Take the Echizen Railway Mikuni Awara Line from Fukui → Get off at Mikuni Station (三国駅).
• Then, take the Komatsu Bus to Tojinbo, just 10 minutes away.
Perfect for those wanting to stroll around the charming little town before reaching the cliffs. 💕

📸 Must-see photo spots!
1. Main Viewpoint – A popular spot for a stunning contrast between the sea and rocky cliffs.
2. Oshima Bridge – Capture a romantic view of the small islands and the sea.
3. Tojinbo Sightseeing Boat – A must-try for those who want to see the view from the sea! The boat fare is approximately 1,500 yen.

👜 Tips from fellow travelers
• Shoes: Wear rubber-soled shoes or sneakers, as some of the paths are slippery.
• It's very windy! Especially in winter or autumn, be sure to bring a windbreaker, as the wind can get quite chilly.
• Don't miss the cliffside cafes. There are many cafes with sea views, perfect for taking photos from every angle!
• Recommended time: Go in the late afternoon to watch the sunset reflect off the cliffs. It's breathtakingly beautiful. #tojinbo #fukui #fukuitrip #fukuitravel #fukuiadventure ~
