Don’t Miss This Hidden Gem in Salento: Coffee, Mountains & Magic

If there’s one memory from my trip to Colombia that I keep replaying in my mind, it’s sitting on a wooden bench at Finca El Ocaso in Salento, cradling a warm cup of freshly brewed coffee, with the sun dipping behind the Andes and hummingbirds dancing around me.

This wasn’t just a coffee tour - It was an experience. A story. A feeling.

🏞️ Welcome to Paradise:
- Tucked away in the heart of the Quindío coffee region, El Ocaso feels like a postcard that came to life. Just getting there was part of the adventure - I hopped into a traditional Willys Jeep from Salento and bumped my way through the hills, passing lush coffee fields and smiling locals.
- Once at the finca, the views took my breath away: green mountains rolling endlessly into the horizon, birdsong echoing through the valley, and the comforting smell of roasted beans in the air.

☕️ What the Tour is Really Like:
- The Premium Coffee Tour I joined was intimate, hands-on, and surprisingly emotional. We started from the very beginning - learning how coffee is planted, picked, processed, and roasted. I even got to try picking ripe beans myself (turns out it’s harder than it looks!).
- Our guide, a local expert, was passionate and funny - mixing facts with stories from his own childhood on the farm. And the coffee tasting session at the end? Wow. It completely changed the way I drink and appreciate coffee.

✍🏼 Tips for Travelers:
- Getting There: Walk from Salento (about 35 minutes through beautiful countryside) or take a Willys Jeep from the main plaza.
- When to Go: Try to visit in the morning or late afternoon for better light, cooler air, fewer crowds. Book ahead in the high season!
- What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, and your best questions - the guides love interacting.
- Language: Tours are available in both Spanish and English. Just confirm when you book.
- Cost: Around $10–$15 USD depending on the tour you choose. Great value for a 2-hour immersive experience.

Finca El Ocaso was one of those for me. Not just because of the coffee (though it was amazing), but because of the people, the passion, and the peaceful energy of the place.
