
Wuyi Mountain, located at the junction of Jiangxi and northwestern Fujian provinces, covers a total area of 999.75 square kilometers at the southeastern foot of the northern section of the Wuyi Mountain Range. It is a famous scenic tourist area and summer resort in China. It features typical Danxia landforms and is one of the first batch of national key scenic spots.
Wuyishan is a renowned mountain for the Three Religions. Since the Qin and Han dynasties, it has been a haven for Zen Buddhists, leaving behind numerous temples, monasteries, and nunneries. It was also a place where Confucian scholars taught and advocated Taoism. The Wuyishan Nature Reserve boasts the best-preserved and most biodiverse ecosystem at its latitude, boasting 2,527 plant species and nearly 5,000 species of wildlife.
Wuyi Mountain is a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site, a World Biosphere Reserve, a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit (Wuyi Mountain Cliff Tombs), a National Key Scenic Spot, a National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction, a National Nature Reserve, a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area, a National Ecotourism Demonstration Zone, and a National Civilized Scenic Tourist Area Demonstration Site.

Wuyishan Scenic Area can be generally divided into five major scenic areas: Tianyou-Taoyuan Cave Scenic Area, Shuiliandong-Dahongpao Scenic Area, Yixiantian-Huxiaoyan Scenic Area, Yulinting-Lotus Peak Scenic Area, and Wuyi Palace-Dawang Peak Scenic Area.

Wuyi Mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its stunning natural landscapes and biodiversity. It has cultural significance due to ancient cliff inscriptions, Taoist and Buddhist temples, and as the birthplace of Dahongpao tea, one of China’s most prized teas. The area has been a cultural and spiritual site for centuries.
Booking in advance is recommended during weekends, Chinese holidays, and peak seasons (spring and autumn), ideally 1–2 weeks ahead.
Allow 1–2 full days to explore major trails, bamboo rafting, peaks, and cultural sites thoroughly.
Guided tours are available in Chinese and English; audio guides can be rented on-site in multiple languages including English.
