🏘 Wat Mahawong was originally built around 1796 during the reign of King Rama II by the Mon people. Initially located along the Mahawong Canal, the temple was later relocated to its current site in 1934. Over time, the temple fell into disrepair due to lack of maintenance, but restoration efforts began in 1963.
🙏🏽 In 1964, the foundation stone for the ordination hall was laid by Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanayana (Yoo Yanothayo), who presided over the ceremony. In 1971, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great attended the ceremony to cut the boundary stone.
Key attractions and significant features within the temple include:
🏠 The ordination hall, a two-story reinforced concrete structure in traditional Thai style, adorned with decorative gables and finials.
🙏🏽 Inside the temple, you will find revered statues such as Luang Pho Phutthasothon, Phra Mahawong Chaiyasawat, Phra Sivali, various Buddha images in different postures, Luang Pho Thuat, and Thao Wessuwan.
🛕 The bell tower.
