Shidoji Temple is the 86th temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage, located in Shido, Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is a historic temple that is said to have been founded in the 33rd year of the reign of Empress Suiko (625).
When you enter the temple grounds, the first thing that catches your eye is the magnificent Niomon Gate, built in the mid-Edo period, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property by Kagawa Prefecture. In the temple grounds, there is a Nio statue that is said to have been made by Unkei in the Kamakura period, and its powerful appearance overwhelms visitors.
Another highlight is the dry landscape garden "Musen Garden" created by landscape designer Mirei Shigemori in 1962, where you can calm your mind in silence.
Shidoji Temple is a place where history and culture live on.
