Nanzoin Temple

Nanzoin Temple (南蔵院) has the largest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, or maybe the world. There are many other statues and Buddhas in the temple, but what makes this temple the most famous is that it is the starting point of the famous pilgrimage route of Kyushu Island. This reclining Buddha is 41 meters long, 11 meters high, and weighs 300 tons. It has the same architectural style as the Great Buddha statues in Nara and Kamakura. It was built in 1995. Generally, Buddha statues in Japan are usually seated, but this Buddha statue is reclining. Nanzoin Temple has donated money to help monks in Burma many times, so in return, they sent relics back. Nanzoin Temple built a reclining Buddha statue that is popular in Burma to store it. It is also said that the money used to build it came from the abbot who won the lottery many times! #nanzoin #fukuoka #travel
