Wonderful University Bookstore: Magus Books in the U-District 📚

📍 1408 NE 42nd Street, Seattle, WA 98105

If you love ivy, old spines, and aisles that feel like a time machine, you’ll want to linger.

Tucked between brick apartments and coffee aroma near the University of Washington, Magus Books feels like stepping through a portal into another century of reading. Its ivy-draped exterior catches the fall mist, while two bargain carts outside promise $1–$5 surprises. Inside, the aisles close in with wooden shelves stacked floor-to-ceiling—an estimated 70,000 titles. Magus specializes in used and scholarly books, plus a big science fiction section.

🚶♀️ How to Get There

From Bellevue, cross the 520 Bridge toward the University District. Exit at NE 45th Street, turn south on 15th Ave NE, then right again onto NE 42nd Street—the green awning will greet you halfway down the block.

By light-rail, hop off at U District Station, walk two blocks.
