The last stop for my mother to take a hot spring bath in Northeast China was Akita
It is also a county in the Northeast that I like very much.
In the past 23 years, it snowed when I went to Tazawako, and I didn’t see the snow-capped mountains on the other side.
This success made up for the previous regrets.
Combining the two trips, I have given you a route I highly recommend for winter in Akita.

Day❶ Tazawako
❄️Memories of the Shigatana Branch School (Shigatana Branch School)
The wooden school building was built in 1882 and closed in 1974.
It was opened to the public in 2004 after two restorations.
Very suitable for shooting youth campus blockbusters with friends

❄️Visit Lake Tazawa
The deepest lake in Japan, second only to Lake Mashu in Hokkaido in terms of transparency
The snow-capped mountains and lake views in winter are very dreamy
It is recommended to buy a bus ticket for the Tazawako One-Circuit Route at the bus information center in the JR station.
You can take a bus from the JR station to go around the lake, and stop at [Katagiri] for 20 minutes and [Gozanoishi] for 10 minutes, where you can visit the Tatsuko statue and the lakeside torii of Gozanoishi Shrine.

Day ❷ Nyuto Hot Spring Village
A very famous hot spring town hidden in the mountains
There are 7 hot spring hotels, but only 5 are open in winter.
7 hot springs, 7 types of springs, 7 benefits
There is a saying that "you can't take a bath if you have nipples". Taenoyu, Tsuru no Yu, and Kaniba Onsen also have mixed baths.
If you want to stay in Nyuto Onsen, you need to book very early in advance (I had to book other hotels a month in advance)
🌟If you stay in a hotel in a hot spring town, you can buy a "Hot Spring Tour Ticket" (1,800 yen) at the front desk of the hotel where you are staying. This ticket allows you to visit all 7 hot spring hotels within a year and take the hot spring tour bus for free.
We didn't stay at the hot spring, so we were told that we couldn't buy a combined ticket, so we only took a bath in Taenoyu (1,000 yen/person for a day trip)

Day❸ Akita City
Compared to Lake Tazawa and Nyuto Onsen, Akita, the seat of the prefectural government, is a little bit monotonous.
You can start from the station and take a simple city walk along the following route

Located between Lake Tazawa and Nyuto Onsen
The price is moderate and the pick-up service can be booked one day in advance
The room is very spacious and the hot spring is very comfortable
There are many buffets, including many local dishes from Akita.
Including the famous local Hinai chicken and venison
The paintings in the corridor are also very interesting, and there are delicious Dandan noodles for midnight snacks.
